About This Blog
This blog is devoted to providing detailed, accurate but straight-forward information about dogs – especially regarding their health and well-being. When it comes owning a dog, knowledge is key; the more you know about your dog’s breed, normal behaviour and health problems, the better your chances of being able to keep your dog happy and healthy.
I call myself dogexpert because I spent 20 years as a veterinary surgeon, specialising in canine rehabilitation. I have owned, cared-for and operated on countless dogs from a huge variety of breeds – so I know quite a lot about them! Enough, I hope, to provide you with all the basics about dog health.
In this day and age, it is a sad face that 80% of dog owners would put their dog rather, rather than spend over £2000 on surgery. What makes the fact even more galling, is that cancer is the biggest killer of dogs and can require expensive emergency surgery that many owners are simply not willing to pay for. I have seen hundreds of owners go through the agony of deciding between their beloved pet and financial stability; it’s not an experience I would put my worst enemy through and, for this reason, I recommend pet insurance to every dog owner I know. It can cost as little a £1 a week, but could literally save your dog’s life on more than one occasion!
But that’s enough of the depressing stuff; on to how to make a happy hound!
